Entry Fees to Sambor Prei Kuk UNESCO’s World Heritage Site

 in Kompong Thom Province set to increase from 1^st January 2018 onwards  

According to the new directive from the Cambodian Ministry of Economy and Finance issued on 31^st October 2017, and the letter from the National Authority for Sambor Prei Kuk dd. 28 November 2017 to all concerned Agencies and Tour Operators in Cambodia, the new rates and entrance fees to Sambor Prei Kuk Archaeological Park will be increased to USD 10 / Ten US Dollars per person / per day, effective from coming 1^st January 2018 onwards.

Located in Kampong Thom Province, 181km east of Angkor and 196 km north of the capital Phnom Penh, this walled city covers an area of 25km² and features numerous temples, ten of which are uniquely octagonal. Sambor Prei Kuk, which literally means “the temple in the richness of the forest” in Khmer, is believed to be the site of Ishanapura, the capital of an ancient empire which one covered modern day Cambodia and the Mekong Delta. The site’s temples are “unique specimens of their genre in Southeast Asia”. The visit to Sambor Prei Kuk can be done either “on-the-way” from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap in a chronological way as to witness the evolution of the archaeological styles of the Khmer Temples, or vice-versa on the way to the Capital City. A brief stop at the small Kompong Thom Museum with its beautiful artifacts of Sambor Prei Kuk style is a real must-see!
