Friends International

Working with marginalized children/youth, their families and their communities, Mith Samlanh’s projects are designed to assist the children’s social reintegration.

Mith Samlanh (meaning “Best Friend”) was established in August 1994. It began as the first program of Friends-International, the award winning social enterprise and is a non-religious, non-political organization working with marginalized children/youth, their families and their communities in Phnom Penh.

Working with this group Mith Samlanh’s activities are designed to assist the children’s social reintegration (reintegration into their families, the public school system, employment, and their culture) through outreach work, education and training and to support their parents through income generation projects. Mith Samlanh also implements the ChildSafe program in Phnom Penh

Travelers can experience a host of activities supporting former street youths in training – dining at two restaurants, Friends the Restaurant or Romdeng which cater for customers with expansive menus ranging from local dishes to international and fusion cuisine.  There is also a Nail Bar and three retail outlets (Friends ‘N’ Stuff), selling products made by families to support their children, and the internationally award-winning series of ‘Friends’ cookbooks are also available for purchase there.
